UK government issues update following fifth round of trade talks with the Gulf Cooperation Council.
This month saw the fifth round of trade talks between the UK and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The talks, which were hosted in Riyadh by the GCC, took place to further progress on a free trade agreement between the UK and the Arab Gulf states.
The GCC currently includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Trade between the UK and this region is worth £61.5 billion according to the Department for Business & Trade.
During the discussions, 21 policy areas were discussed, and key treaty next drafted.
The first quarter of 2024 should see the sixth round of negotiations.
