UK launches FTA negotiations with the GCC

On 22 June 2022, the UK announced the launch of Free Trade Agreement negotiations between the UK and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The GCC is a multilateral agreement covering six middle eastern states (United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait).

In 2020 bi-lateral trade between the GCC and UK was worth over £30 billion and it is hoped that any FTA can develop and boost trade in goods, services, digital trade and green growth.
