Two-year extension for CE Marking

The Business Secretary Grant Shapps announced yesterday (Monday 14th November) that the Government will continue to recognise the CE product marking in Great Britain for a further two years.

As such, businesses now have until 31st December 2024 to prepare and use the UKCA marking rather than the initial deadline which was the end of this calendar year (31st December 2022).

Alongside this extension, the Government has announced that they will allow businesses to affix the UKCA marking and include importer information for products from EEA countries, on an accompanying document or label until 31st December 2027.

When explaining the reasoning behind the extension to the easement period, Grant Shapps stated:

“This move will give businesses the breathing space and flexibility they need at this crucial time and ensure that our future system for product safety marking is fit for purpose, providing the highest standard for consumers without harming businesses.”

There will be different rules for medical devices, construction products, cableways, transportable pressure equipment, energy-using products, unmanned aircraft systems, civil explosives, hazardous substances (RoHS), rail products, and marine equipment.
