Following the recent extension of temporary rules of origin, the UK and Korea have officially launched negotiations on a modernised free trade agreement. The statement, which was issued during the Korean president’s first visit to the UK in ten years, saw both countries pledge to upgrade the existing free trade agreement.
Key priorities set out for negotiation included revised rules of origin and a commitment to the free flow of data to reflect the increasing importance of digital trade to both countries’ economies.
The first round of negotiations is due to begin on 22 January 2024.
