As tweeted by the Secretary of State for International Trade, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the UK has started its first round of negotiations with the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council). The UK is looking to sign a Free Trade Agreement with the GCC which is a multilateral agreement covering six middle eastern states (United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait).
As we previously reported, negotiations were officially launched on 22 June 2022 with the aim to agree upon an “ambitious, comprehensive and modern agreement”. Any timescale or target dates for negotiations to be completed has yet to be made public.
