HMRC Urges Exporters to Subscribe to CDS Ahead of CHIEF Phase Out

Exporters receive calls to subscribe to the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) before March 2024.

HMRC has urged all exporters who have not already done so to subscribe to the new Customs Declarations Service (CDS), which will replace Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) for all export declarations from 31 March 2024.

Whilst CDS replaced the CHIEF system for import declarations last year, the migration to CDS for exporters has been delayed twice to date.

In the email to all export declarants not currently subscribed, HMRC set out the steps required to subscribe. A video tutorial outlining these steps can be found here. How to subscribe to the Customs Declaration Service - YouTube

In the meantime, the government has urged traders to continue using CHIEF for export declarations whilst HMRC readies the system for handling all export routes and declaration types.

Exporters can submit their questions about using CDS for both exports and imports here.
