UK Shared
Prosperity Fund
This new fund, managed by the Department for Levelling, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), is all about levelling up opportunity and prosperity and addressing long-standing geographical inequalities across the UK.
Dehenna Davison (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities) recently announced that the money will be spent on levelling up the following three key areas:
-
Communities and Place: This could include improving parks and green spaces, sports facilities and access to arts and culture
-
Support Local Businesses: Including support for entrepreneurs, as well as research and development grants for local businesses to help develop innovate products and services
-
People and Skills: Providing basic life skills, digital training and education in English and Maths, and specialist support for people with additional barriers due to health conditions
The fund also includes a multimillion-pound adult numeracy programme "multiply" to support people with no or low-level maths skills.
What Support will there be for Businesses?
Regional authorities have worked behind the scenes throughout 2022 putting their needs and plans forward, and the UK Government has now published the allocation of Funds for each lead authority who will be managing the Funds for the 2022-2025 period, based on the spending plans they submitted.
