UK Signs Sixth US State Deal

Yesterday (26th September) the UK signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the US state of Washington. This marks the 6th such MoU that the UK has signed.

As a state, Washington bought £508m worth of goods from the UK in 2022 and sold a total of £1.27bn to UK customers. The state is home to major US businesses such as Amazon, Starbucks, Microsoft and Boeing, and has a GDP roughly equivalent to Poland.

Overall, the UK has now signed MoUs with Indiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Utah and Washington. As a collective, these states imported £5.1bn of UK goods in 2022.

However, it doesn’t look like the UK Government are finished quite yet when it comes to MoUs. Discussions remain ongoing with Florida, Texas, California, Colorado, and Illinois in pursuit of agreeing further, similar MoUs.
