The Foreign Secretary Liz Truss made a statement on Tuesday 17 May 2022 providing more detail on how the UK Government intends to fix the issues with the Norther Ireland Protocol that have created barriers between GB and NI, whilst trying to preserve the island of Ireland trade and cooperation agreement. Negotiations continue but in the meantime there will be no change for UK businesses who can continue to move goods in exactly the same way as they have been doing since the end of the transition period.

Liz Truss announced that in developing this new legislation, the UK Government will work closely with business representative bodies to ensure the new arrangements preserve smooth operations for trading across the island of Ireland as well as between NI and GB. And that plenty of notice and communication will be provided before any changes come into effect. Read the full statement here
